I normally do not write reviews so I apologize before hand on the rustic nature of this review. I had the opportunity to see the drama “Flight 666: Dead in Dallas” a few weeks ago with family and friends. The Rock Church out of Parkersburg West Virginia was host to the event and they put on a spectacular show.

 

Please note that if you want to see this drama you had better order your tickets as soon as possible because this drama sells out fast. There are several reasons it is so popular and I want to give you just a few. First, from the moment you walk through the door you will be greeted, not in an awkward way, by several people. The thing that caught my eye was that people were genuinely friendly and displayed remarkable patience as they guided my family and me through the line. Anyone with children I am sure can appreciate that small bit of information but they don’t stop there. There was also popcorn, snacks, food, drinks, and accessible restrooms which put this drama on a whole other level!

 

The second reason this drama is so popular is that the seats are comfortable and the auditorium is very spacious. Anywhere you sit is a good seat and you will be able to see and hear everything going on. You’re close enough to the characters to see their tears but far enough away that it doesn’t feel intimidating.

 

Third, it’s the real deal. You are not going to get pumped full of ‘positive vibes’; rather, you are going to come face to face with reality. Not so sound cliché but you will notice that some of it is painful, some of it is not, but all of it is healing.

 

My family and I drove an hour and half to see this drama and we had no idea what to expect. There are several surprises throughout the drama that I do not want to ruin for those of you who want to see it, but I can tell you the cast did an incredible job of portraying the characters. Each character dealt with real world issues and this allowed the audience to climb into each role as the characters developed. My personal favorite part of this whole play was the dialogue between the characters. This held especially true for the part of the Devil. If you have ever read, “Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis then you will know where I am coming from on this. Satan’s dialogue with the audience will keep you on the edge of your seat if you might be looking into the gnarled red skin beady eyed enemy himself. Again, I don’t want to ruin for anyone but it will leave an impression.

 

I took my wife and children to see this and their ages are 6, 7, 12. At first my youngest child was a bit freaked out but she ended up really enjoying it. The middle child thought it was awesome and it gave us a lot to talk about even days later. My oldest child’s response was fantastic. He ended up having a dream about it that freaked him out. He said, “I dreamt I was one of the Devil’s henchmen and I kept dragging people to hell even though I didn’t want too.” This allowed me to discuss the grace of God followed by our action or inaction as a response. I really believe God used this drama to open my son’s eyes further to the realities of life and death and anyone who has a pre-teen/teen knows there is unmatched value in this.

 

I want to recommend this play to anyone who wants to see it but I will advise the caution posted on their web page. “Caution: Due to the realistic special effects for scenes of hell and demonic activity, this drama may not be suitable for young children. There is a fantastic Gospel message before, during, and after the drama and hundreds have come to know Jesus through this play so be sure to bring everyone you can. ENJOY!
